Assessment Content Year 10 and 11
Higher tier assessments consist of approximately

At the end of Year 11 learners take three 90 minute exams with questions covering a mixture of topics across the course. There will be one non-calculator exam: in the remaining two exams calculators are allowed. All three exams contribute equally to the learner’s final grade.
Curriculum Content Year 12 and 13
In Year 12 learners can choose to continue their studies with the A-level mathematics course: A2 year Edexcel Level 3 Advanced GCE course (9MA0). Learners will have the opportunity to study a variety of disciplines within the subject including advanced algebraic methods, algebraic and numerical calculus, statistical methods and mechanics.
The “pure mathematics” topics studied include:

The “applied mathematics” topics studied include:

At the end of Year 13 learners take three 2-hour exams. Paper 1 and 2 focus on the pure mathematical elements of the course and can pose questions from any of the topics listed above. Paper 3 focuses on the applied mathematical elements and is split into two sections: one
examining statistics, the other examining mechanics. All three papers allow the use of a calculator and contribute equally to the learner’s final grade.
