Overview
Drama has a major role to play in education, in the development of students’ sensitivity, social skills, well-being, imagination, creativity, independence, attitudes and confidence, as well as in broadening understanding of the specifics of the subject and its potential for further and higher education and a range of career pathways.
In addition, Drama supports the delivery of Literacy, the National Curriculum, our Spiritual, Moral and Cultural education, and Modern British Values, helping to develop confident, self-reliant, socially responsible and thoughtful young people who are ready to take their place in the world.
Please contact Head of Department Mrs K Southern for further information.
Equipment
For Drama you need to bring imagination, bravery, independence, enthusiasm and a willingness to have a go at everything, no matter how strange it might seem!
Learners in Years 7-9 will need their usual basic equipment, but will be provided with a drama workbook to track progress and provide knowledge organisers to reinforce what that have learned in lessons.
Exam students will have folders and playtexts which can be stored in school but A Level learners should ensure they wear suitable, flexible clothing for practical lessons.
Out of Class/Extra-curricular
At lunchtime, Drama offer an open door policy where students can use the two studios to rehearse exam and personal performance work, such as audition pieces and interview preparation, without or without support from our experienced staff and senior students.
Years 7 and 8 can attend a weekly drama club where they can play games, explore their own ideas and create mini productions, as well as being part of more major school productions, pantomimes and musicals with the music department.
In addition, Drama create and coordinate productions and special events throughout the year, such as the recent production of “DNA”, the De Aston talent show, house Drama activities and whole school musicals and the recent, acclaimed 'Stephen Lawrence Project' for Lincolnshire's Hate Crime Conference as well as organising regular theatre trips, workshops and visiting speakers to support students learning and enrich their school experience.

Remote Learning
Drama students were challenged to explore a scene using proxemics and record (either written or on video) their own ideas. De Aston student Harrison has made an entire animation including miniature props!
