Art KS3 Scheme of Work Overview Throughout the year, Year 7, 8 and 9 students visit all 4 assessment criteria. Each piece of work and project builds on techniques and skills in different media to give a good grounding of the subject. Develop ideas through investigations, demonstrating critical understanding of sources. Refine work by exploring ideas, selecting and experimenting with appropriate media, materials, techniques and processes. Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions as work progresses. These are the same stages that students are expected to go through during the GCSE and A’ level courses. Present a personal and meaningful response that realises intentions and demonstrates understanding of visual language There are several areas in each project that build on skill from Year 7 to Year 9 to develop knowledge and refinement in preparation for the GCSE

Assessment Objective 1- Develop

Develop ideas through sustained and focused investigations informed by contextual and other sources, demonstrating analytical and critical understanding.

Assessment Objective 2-Refine and Experiment

Explore and select appropriate resources, media, materials, techniques and processes, reviewing and refining ideas as work develops.

Assessment Objective 3-Record

Record ideas, observations and insights relevant to intentions, reflecting critically on work and progress.

Assessment Objective 4-Present Final Piece

Present a personal, informed and meaningful response demonstrating critical understanding, realising intentions and where appropriate, make connections between visual, written, oral or other elements

Students will follow the Fine Art title which provides them with a broad course that includes using a variety of media, materials and techniques.

In year 12 they will start their Personal investigation. The emphasis is on self-directed study based on a personal, issue, interest or theme. They will be expected to work independently, demonstrating increasing confidence in their ability to explore and handle ideas, issues or themes, materials, techniques and processes. The work they produce should take into account historical/ critical/contextual elements and evidence of how they have developed their ideas for a final outcome or a series of final outcomes.

In Year 13 they will continue with their Personal investigation including a coherent and logically structured extended written response of around 3000 words of continuous prose until February when they will receive and start the externally set assignment.

We will be exploring a range of subject matter covering the possibilities of fine art, graphic design, photography, textile design, 3D design. 

Career Progression

On successful completion of these courses students often will go on to Art College to do Foundation Art and then onto a chosen Creative Degree. After further studies besides working as a practising artist or designer you may find other opportunities in areas such as advertising, retailing, marketing, journalism and teaching
